1. Heart diseases: their symptoms and treatments

Coronary insufficiency:

Symptoms

• hardening and losing elasticity of the coronary arteries
• supplying of less blood to the heart

Treatments

• electrocardiography, coronary angiography and myocardial perfusion scintigraphy methods are used
• Drug therapy or balloon treatment can be done
• Stent can be put to provide opening of the arteries, as per the condition of the patient’s heart
• Coronary insufficiency can also be treated by bypass operation

2. Congenital Heart Diseases

Symptoms

• Have a hole in heart
• Under-developed heart valves
• Narrow aorta
• The cross arteries from the heart

• Surgery is applied

3. Cardiac Rhythm and Conduction Disturbances 

Symptoms

• Faster or slower pumping of the blood in the heart than it normally does due to the contraction of the heart muscle
• Neural transmission corruption on heart or weakening of the heart muscle

Treatments

• Medicinal drugs are prescribed to bring the heart to its normal beating
• Heart surgeries are conducted only when there is a need for one in cases like heart failure or problems caused by heart valves

4. Heart-valve diseases

Symptoms

• It is caused as a result of lack of full closure or one or more of four covers located on heart

Treatments

• Medicinal drugs are prescribed
• Surgical operations are conducted at later stages if required based on the patient’s condition

5. Peripheral Vascular Diseases

Symptoms

• This disease happens due to the shrinkage, cracking, expansion and branch of blood vessels covering the leg veins.

Treatments

• The expansion of the veins can be treated with the use of a stent planting or with the insertion of the balloon as per the condition of the patient

6. Aorta diseases

It can be treated under two categories: aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection

• Aortic aneurysm: the diameter of the aorta grows larger than 3 centimeters. Stent can be applied or a surgery can be done to straighten the diameter of the aorta.
• Aortic dissection: separation and detachment of the inner membrane of the aorta takes place. It requires a surgical operation including merging and suturing the laceration of the tissues. It is quite a detailed and complex one.

7. Hypertension

Symptoms

• High blood pressure affecting vital functions of the body

Treatments

• Medicines for high blood pressure
• Proper nutrition and diet
• Regular physical exercise

8. Hypercholesterolemia  

Symptoms

• High cholesterol leads to the blockage and hardening of the vascular system

Treatments

• Prescribed and strict nutrition is to be maintained
• Physical exercise is recommended
• Treatment can be done without drugs

The term cardiology is derived from the Greek words cardia meaning heart and logia which means study.
